1,700: Running The Numbers

I can't believe this project is finally done. 

1,700 slides. Two months. 1968-1984. 2 Binders. Ten Years.

Those are the numbers folks. I have had in my possession my family's 1,700 piece slide collection ranging from 1968 to 1984 for the last ten years. I have wanted to get these bad boys digitally scanned and organized for what feels like forever. 

I finally got around to doing it and it took me two months. 

Two months to scan them in, organize and label them both digitally and into two different binders. It was a super fun but long journey. 

With the possibility of move in our near future I did not want to drag those slide reels to one more place. They just took up too much space and I really wanted to downsize them. Plus, there are some great treasures in these. For example most of my baby photos are on slides and I really wanted to get them out where I could see them. 

I just love doing family history. I have such a love and a passion for it. I work on different projects all the time and I love seeing things get done and to be able to share things with my kids that they have never seen or heard before about their family. 

I love how it makes my family come to life. Family that I didn't even know but that have always just been a name to me. It is such fulfilling work to do. I am really pushing to get a lot of it done this year while the kids are in school because I have a sneaking suspicion that this coming summer will be like last year. Zero family history done. Too busy having fun with the kiddos. Of course that is the way it should be. Right?

A Miraculous Life

 

I got to spend the afternoon with this wonderful man.

 My Grandpa, Norman Carpenter Sargent. 

He is giving me the honor of recording his life story. 

We recorded for just a couple hours and 

we still have a long way to go. 

According to him he has lived a miraculous life.

After listening to him thus far,

 I would have to say that I agree with him.

 He has had many miracles come to him in his life. 

Many times he should not have made it through

 to live to tell about it. 

I love how when you study peoples lives there are so many lessons to learn and it is obvious to see the Lord's hand in our lives. 

He truly is in the details of our lives. 

I love the perspective genealogy and personal histories give to me. 

I truly cannot wait to hear more about Grandpa's miraculous life. 

Spirit Of Elijah

(15 generation pedigree chart I filled out one night,

 it took up more than half my kitchen table and my hand was cramping when I was done.)

I have always loved Family History. 

I enjoy keeping a journal, a blog, family scrapbook, etc.

I have always known that I would love doing family history work. 

Last winter I finally was able to take the family history class at 

church. I loved it. I am still just getting my feet wet with it but

I can already tell that I am getting filled with the Spirit of Elijah. 

  

“… And he shall plant in the hearts of the children the promises made to the fathers, and the hearts of the children shall turn to their fathers. If it were not so, the whole earth would be utterly wasted at his coming” (verses 38, 39).

This scripture keeps having new meaning to me. 

I have loved every minute of it.

One of the things that I have really gained from it is 

a better perspective on my day to day life. 

It reminds me that my challenges are nothing compared 

to some of the trials that my ancestors faced. 

It has been a very timely reminder as we face so many changes in our life in the coming months.
