Environmental Excitement

I got to spend this beautiful day with this cute kid.
It was wonderful!
The sun was out, the sky was gorgeous and we
 were having a blast together!
We went up to the Environmental Center.
Which is always fun for me.
I have so many great memories of that place
and I am loving that I am making more there with my cute kids.
We got to cross country ski. My first time ever.
Ryland loved it and was a bit of a dare devil in my
own opinion.

We also got to snow shoe. This was my 2nd time doing
this and I gotta say I LOVE it! Much more than
anything requiring skis. I don't love the feeling of being
out of control.

We snow shoed up to the top of a little mountain. If you look carefully in this picture you can see where the cross country skiers were at. On the far right, right above all of the trees in that open area. We got up pretty high. It felt great and was beautiful!
What goes up must come down and that was true in this case as well. We preferred sliding down on our bums. It was great!

At the end of the day we spent a little time inside the Environmental Center lodge. Ryland took advantage of the rock climbing wall.
I am thinking we will both sleep well tonight.

Flashback Friday: Fieldwork: Lee's Grocery

Today's Flashback Friday is dedicated to Ryland.
In January of 2011 we went with his first grade class on a field work to Lee's Grocery store in North Ogden.
His class was learning about their bodies and healthy foods.

They got to tour the entire store. Freezers, fridges, bakery, meat department, everything. They had a great time.
At the end they had a budget of $5 and we had to find a healthy, well balanced meal for them to buy. It was great fun!

Viva La Mexico!!!!

Evelyn had her Celebration of Learning on Mexico tonight.
 It was super fun!!
What a great party these little First and Second graders put on!
We got to see them perform a Mexican Hat dance and sing some songs from Mexico.
They made a pinata and were able to do that tonight as well.
They also made some authentic Mexican food and Mexican Hot Chocolate.
It was such a fun night and I love how she enjoyed learning about their culture so much!

Evie's cute teacher Miss W.
She just loves her so much. I swear she is making her a little love
note every other night. So sweet.

Singing their cute little songs

Preparing to dance. She was just mortified that she had to
dance with a boy in public and that I was taking pictures as well.
The nerve!! Haha!

What was funny was how mortified they both were of the experience and boy they were not afraid to show it. These photos just kill me. haha!

She just loves this skirt. I am thinking it is going to have to find a way to make it under our Christmas tree. What girl wouldn't want such a twirly dress?

Her and her good friend Taydree

I was so impressed with how patiently she waited for the pinata to break. She didn't end up with much candy but she sure was a polite little lady during the activity.

First Day of School 2013

It is that time of year again, and it is that day once again.
The FIRST Day of School 2013
This is also the first year that I have all FOUR of the kids in ALL DAY school. Crazy sauce I tell ya. I won't lie, I have mixed feelings about it.

First up is OF COURSE our little First Grader, Evelyn. She is so super excited to be a big First Grader, especially because she gets to eat SCHOOL LUNCH!! All I gotta say is I hope the excitement lasts and it is everything this little girl is hoping it will be. Ha ha This year she is in Miss W's class. We love her. Ryland had her in his Second Grade year.

This boy is stinking excited to be in Mr. Brinkerhoff's class for Fourth Grade. I think it has something to do with NOT being called a TURD GRADER by Mr. B!! Mr. B is officially Ryland's all time favorite teacher and let me tell you, he has had some AMAZING teachers.

Now this cute girl. All I have to say is Middle School, WATCH OUT because my Ally Girl is gonna take you by storm. This Seventh Grader knows what she wants and how to get it done. I can't wait to watch her move mountains.

Last but certainly not least, the HIGH SCHOOLER! Yes! You heard me correctly. This boy is in High School this year! I am not sure ANY of us are ready for this. Ninth Grade here we come!!!

I will admit, it kinda threw me when I looked back and saw my empty van. EMPTY!! How did this happen?? Seriously, where did the time go??

Luckily, due to it being Ally's birthday, I was able to see Evelyn at her first School Lunch with two of her good friends, Ava and Taydree. Can you say EXCITEMENT??

8th Grade Passage

At our kids school they are set up in pods. For example, K-2, 3-5, 6-8, and then the High School. When you reach the age that you are going to move on to the next pod level you go through a Passage. You briefly talk about some of the things you experienced and learned during your previous couple of years and talk about things that have made you grow and helped you to become the person you
are today.
Ethan had his 8th grade Passage last night. It is with some of your Teachers, Peer Students, and other Parents. We were able to sit and watch but were not allowed to participate.
He did a great job! He actually got one of the Teachers choked up. He spoke of his growing desire to be an Author and what he hopes to accomplish in his future.
This morning he was presented to the entire school, along with the other kids that passed their Passage. He received his Passage pin and wore it with pride.

Venture Track Meet at Ogden High School

Today was our last track meet of the season.  It was bittersweet, not gonna lie. As a former track runner I love the thrill of a track meet. The energy, the drama, all of it. As a Coach, feeling a little burned out, not much, just a little. It has been a busy month.
Lydia D., Jayden C., Katelynn H., Parker M., Coach Mills, Chris I., Brittany H., Ethan, Ashtyn K., Ally
This team photo is most of our team. We had a couple girls who weren't there today.
Ally running her 100 meter Dash. Look at that great stride!

Because one of our girls wasn't at the meet Ally stepped up and took her place. She was a little nervous running the relay with some of the older girls but she did GREAT! Check out this hand off! Perfect!

Ethan at the starting line for the 4x100. He was the first leg this go round. He did great!

Another great hand off between Parker and Ethan!

It was a great meet! It was a great season! I felt really bad for one of my girls, Katelynn, she was busting out her 200 meter dash and pulled her groin muscle. So sad that happened to her. Well, til next year!
